Journey from Foodbank to
Food Pantry
For those who don’t know, the Foodbank at St Michaels is now a Food Pantry and Cathy Knowles the Food Project Co-ordinator, explains how the transition went.
We went from a Foodbank to a Food pantry on the 4th December, It was a lot of stress and hard work, wondering if people would turn up and were we doing the right thing, with so many people needing the food parcels that we gave out at the Foodbank, but now after a few week I can see it was totally the right decision.
The first few weeks were a bit hectic, getting used to how it was run and getting our heads around things that were done differently from the Foodbank, but thankfully now, after 5 week things are running a lot smoother, I know what I am doing and so do the volunteers, who are an amazing group of people.
Instead of people getting a bag of random food, some of which they may not have wanted or used, they not get to pick what they want, they pay a fee of £4.00 and a volunteer takes them around the pantry, and they can pick 3 heart items, which are £1.50 and above and 7 diamond items which are below £1.50. They have a range of things to choose from, from fresh meat, frozen goods, fresh bread, fruit and vegetables and your non-perishable stuff.
The feedback we have had is really positive, which is a blessing, people like what we are doing and the choice that they have to choose from.
The transition from the Foodbank into the pantry has been a lot of hard work but it has been worth every minute, and I just love what I do.
Cathy,
We would like to thank Cathy and her team for all the hard work they have done and continue to do, for the community.
The Food Pantry is open every Sunday 1.30 p.m.—3.30 p.m.

A PRAYER for UKRAINE
God of peace and justice,
we pray for the people of Ukraine today,
We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons.
We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow, that your spirit of comfort would draw near to them.
We pray for those with power over war or peace, for wisdom, discernment and compassion to guide their descions.
Above all, we pray for all your precious children, at risk and in fear, that you would hold and protect them.
We pray in the name of Jesus, Prince of Peace.
