About Sutton Parish

Sutton Parish is part of St Helens Deanery and is home to three unique and beautiful Anglican churches – All Saints, St Nicholas’ and St Michael’s & All Angels. Each church has a rich history, but they are more than that. They are a place of refuge and safety where people are welcomed and comforted by the love of Jesus, right across Sutton.

Dear Church Family,

We write to tell you news that is hard for us to share, which is that we will be leaving Sutton Parish later this year. The letter comes with a depth of love for you and prayers for you ongoing. You have a permanent place in our hearts.

In August 2017 we left our family in the South and answered God’s call to make our home amongst you here in St. Helens. You have welcomed us and taught us many things. You have loved us and we have loved you. We have served you and the community here as best we can through momentous times of upheaval and challenge in the world.

On Valentine’s Day this year we received a new call to three parishes in rural Bedfordshire, and we believe this to be God’s leading. We will be leaving Sutton in early June to start a new ministry in the villages of Silsoe, Pulloxhill and Flitton in the Diocese of St. Albans.

Our new home and churches are 20 minutes’ drive from our daughters and our grandson Ben, and this feels like a great gift to us after years of being so far away from them.

We are so glad that you have a faithful ministry team to continue to love and serve you here in the years to come. Lynn and Ann, together with Lorraine in the office, the church wardens and PCC will be supported by Deanery Colleagues. The Diocese of Liverpool and Archdeacon Simon Fisher will support the discernment process for future ministerial provision.

There are a few months left to us to enjoy our friendship with you and to work hard to leave well. We expect our last Sunday with you to be June 5th. Our licensing in the Benefice of Silsoe, Pulloxhill and Flitton will be at 7.30pm on 13th July. You are welcome to come, but it is a long way!

We want to bless you and leave you feeling confident that God has good plans for you. The vision of Sutton Parish –to continue ‘living faith and loving Sutton’ is a clear one which will serve well, to take you into the years ahead, living out your faith and serving the community with God’s love.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

With our love today and always

Louise and Simon

What We Believe

As Christians we believe in the love of God, shown to all the world through God sending His one and only Son, Jesus, to free us from our sins which have distanced us as a people from God.

Jesus as our Lord and Saviour teaches us that God is very close to us, and wants dwell within our hearts and be part of our everyday lives. God, through His Holy Spirit, equips us so we can serve Him with joy in this life, and look forward to eternal life through the death and Resurrection of His Son.

If you would like to further your own spiritual journey or learn about the Christian faith, then please contact one of our team who will be more than happy to help.

Meet the Team

Rev Simon Moore

Team Rector

Hi, I’m Simon. I’ve job shared as Vicar here in Sutton since 2017 as well as working with local churches in the areas of leadership and discipleship. I also work to encourage charities and church teams to tell the story of God and their story even better in teaching and preaching.

We look out onto the Dream sculpture which is great for the dog and running. I love films, curry, pies, walking, golf (more walking…) and avoiding queues. It’s a challenge and privilege to minister in Sutton and I’m so thankful for working with Louise and getting to know our community in any way, to show that God loves St Helens.

Rev Louise Moore

Team RECTOR

Hi, I’m Louise. I combine a part time counselling and pastoral supervision practice with being Rector in Sutton with Simon.

I love being involved with people who seek healing for their minds and souls. I am constantly amazed by the resilience and creativity and courage people I come across in my counselling and ministerial life. I am passionate about prayer and believe it to be the bedrock of church life.

My favourite things? My family, walking in the rain, Bruce Springsteen and a Sunday roast

Rev Lynne Jackson

Team Vicar

Hi, I am Lynne. I am team vicar in Sutton parish and have been here since July 2021. I am a spiritual director as well as a vicar, I love accompanying people on their spiritual journeys.

I believe God called me to Sutton to love and support people wherever they are in their lives, I will always be ready to listen and to pray with or for people as prayer is the foundation of our faith.

My partner Jo and I have 5 children between us and we love family life.

I am a creative person so love making things to give away and bless others. I love food and socialising with friends, I like losing myself in a good book, I love the cinema and theatre and listening to music.

Ann Griffiths

Licensed Reader

Hello, I’m Ann. I am the Licensed Reader in the Ministry Team and so my role is officially one of preaching, teaching and generally supporting the clergy. As well as leading and preaching at Sunday services, I also take funerals, assist at Messy Church and lead PramPushers (the Thursday morning Mums’ and Toddlers’ group).

I am retired from my job as a chartered physiotherapist, and I am thoroughly enjoying being the Granny of 2 little boys who are 4 and 1. My husband and I enjoy ballroom, Latin American and sequence dancing – but we would get nowhere on Strictly!

Lorraine Sheehan

Parish Administrator

Hi, my name is Lorraine and I have been the Parish Administrator for the Sutton Team for nearly two years. I live in Liverpool, with my husband Andy and we have a daughter called Rachel, who lives in Wigan with the family hound, Bertie the Cockapoo.

There are many things I love about my job; the people, the church communities and the variety each day brings. I love being part of a team, that is loving, caring, prayerful and encouraging and the sense of family in which the Sutton Parish brings.

I like to spend my spare time with my family and close friends. My family would say I am annoyingly creative, as I enjoy crafting, card making and I have recently taken up knitting again, after thirty years.

I have met a few members from each of the churches and I look forward to meeting many more
